On Boats And Discipleship

Our guest today is like a librarian in the library of Christianity.  Michael Kelley is a generator and curator of ideas, resources, and guidance.  He works with Lifeway Christian Resources where he writes content to serve churches.  Additionally, he is an author and speaker and is passionate about connecting people to truth.  The only difference from a true librarian is that he doesn’t want people to be quiet about it!

If you tune in today you’ll hear all about Lifeway, Michael’s advice on discipleship, some tricks of the trade for Church marketing, and a refreshing perspective on what it means to follow Jesus fully.

Michael has some great things to share about discipleship.  He tends to think of discipleship in terms of a helpful analogy.  Michael shares On Boats And Discipleship:

“If discipleship is not really like a rowboat and it’s not really like a speedboat, maybe the middle ground is that it’s more like a sailboat.  In a sailboat there’s still stuff that you have to do if you want to move … In the end, any sailor recognizes that you do all the work, but you’re at the mercy of the wind … much in the same way, I think that you could look at the spiritual disciplines – things like prayer, bible study, and scripture memory … you can look at all of those things as positioning your life, putting your life in such a posture that when the Holy Spirit moves that you’re ready.”

Be sure to take a look, check something out, and share the truth out loud!

Engaging Teens

Jeffrey Dean has based his life around serving a population that often gets a bad rap.  He’s got a heart for youth and for helping them learn the truth about God.

As a speaker, ordained pastor, counselor, and author, Jeffrey has spoken to more than 3 million people in a variety of settings.  He gets on their level and keeps them wanting more.  He launched Jeffrey Dean ministries in 1993 and has successfully been engaging teens in a journey towards truth ever since.

One of Jeffrey’s key methods is to be relational and to encourage healthy relationships.  Especially with God.  He shares:

“It’s impossible to know and grow with the Lord more if you’re not spending time with Him.  So we really challenge students and communities to get into the word.”

We’re so grateful and curious about his intuitive pulse on this generation and hope you’ll engage with what he has to share with us today.

From Grief To New Growth

Today’s guest loves to share his story about moving from grief to new growth.  His passion pours out in words that bring hope and challenge – though he never set out to be a writer.  He began on a worship team alongside Matt Redman, and today, that passion and talent pours out other ways.

Craig Borlase feels that writing is like breathing to him – the words just pour out.  He’s used this gift to write books, collaborate on others, and edit many.  To him, the spaces between the words have just as much to say as the words themselves.

In his own words,

Craig spent his teens: “trying to get a buzz out of faith (or drugs)”, his twenties “waiting around for someone to give me permission to take faith seriously,” and his thirties “stripping away the nonsense and discovering the power of God’s grace and love.”

Join us as we journey along in discovering how to move from grief to new growth!
